Experience the best of the life on the islands of the Largest lake in South America and get an insight to the life of local families living here on this overnight Lake Titicaca Amantani Island Homestay. This Lake Titicaca Travel experience takes you to three islands – Uros, Taquile and Amantani islands.
Lake Titicaca is the highest lake in the world at an altitude of 3810 metres or 12500 feet above sea level. It straddles the border between Peru and Bolivia. It is popularly known as the birthplace of the sun. Lake Titicaca is home to many Inca ruins. Locals living here have preserved their age-old traditions and customs.
Uros floating islands are the most visited attractions here. It is built using totora reeds. Back in time when the local family here had disputes they would simply detach the island and float elsewhere.
Island of Taquile is home to people who continue to maintain their traditions and are untouched by modernity. On this full day tour our local guide will give you an insight to their way of life. You will see their traditional way of making shampoos.
Men here are known for knitting and producing some of the finest handmade outfits in the country.
Amantani is home to two sacred peaks of Incas – Pachatata and Pachamama. Here you will be spending a night at a local family home.
The full day trip will give you a better understanding of the diversity in the culture and beliefs of people on these three islands on Lake Titicaca.
Puno Hotel Transfer

We will be picking you from your hotel in Puno. Then we will drive you to the boat pier. Here our representative will assist you in embarking on the boat.
You will be welcomed to live Andean folkloric music. Our tour guide will then give you a brief about the tour.
We will then begin the full day tour with a 25 minutes boat ride to Uros Islands. The head of the family would welcome you and will give you an insight to their life here. They will show you around their small island and will demonstrate the way they build the reed island.
You will then have the option of embarking on a short boat ride on a typical reed boat to the main island of Uros. Here you can get your passport stamped as a souvenir that you visited Lake Titicaca.
We will then continue to Amantani Island. The host family will meet you at the boat pier and will walk you to their home. Lunch will be served here.
Later in the evening, we will be hiking to Pachatata and Pachamama peaks to witness the sunset.
At night we will be joining the locals in the community hall for a few drinks and live Andean folkloric music.
After breakfast at around 0730 AM, we will be leaving Amantani island and will be sailing to Isla Taquile.
Once at Taquile, you will need to walk up the hill for some 45 minutes to reach the main square. From here you will get a spectacular view and will be able to witness the enormity of Lake Titicaca.
We will then give you a guided tour of the island and introduce to the life and culture of Taquileños.
We will be stopping for lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the lake.
After lunch, we will embark on a journey back to Puno. We will be returning to Puno boat pier at around 0500 PM. Our representative will be picking you up and will be transferring you back to your hotel.
This overnight tour of Lake Titicaca was very nice. We visited three islands and spent a night doing homestay with a local family on Amantani Island. Everything was taken care extremely well by Machu Picchu Peru Cusco team.
