Cusco Hotel Transfer
Between 03:30 and 04:00 AM
We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will embark on a journey along the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo train station. Here you will be boarding the expedition train to Aguas Calientes.
Once in Aguas Calientes, we will be transferring you to the bus station. Here you will be boarding the bus to Machu Picchu citadel. It takes 25-30 minutes to reach the entrance of the citadel.
Our guide will assist you to clear the security checkpoint and enter the citadel. Please make sure to carry your original passport as it will be verified against your entrance ticket to Machu Picchu.
We will then give you a two hours guided tour of the sanctuary of Machu Picchu. On this tour, you will be visiting the main square of the complex, then we will walk you through the ceremonial site, remains of ancient temples, farming terraces, and more.
After the tour, you will have some free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. If you have booked your climb to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, our local tour guide will direct you to the entrance. Alternatively, you can walk to the Sun Gate.
Sun Gate or Intipunku is the point through which those on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu enter the complex. It offers a panoramic view of Machu Picchu. It is a two hour hike from the citadel to the Sun Gate and back.
After visiting Machu Picchu, we will be taking the bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes. Here you will have some free time to stop for lunch, if desired. Then we will be boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo.
Our representative will meet you at the train station and will transfer you back to your hotel. We will arrive in the City of Cusco at around 10:00 PM.
Normally access to Machu Picchu citadel is restricted to 2500 people a day. Post COVID-19 pandemic, the authorities are planning to increase this to 3500 visitors a day.
Yes, you can do Machu Picchu in one day from Cusco. The tour typically starts with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco at around 0300 AM. You will be driven to Poroy or Ollantaytambo train station where you will be boarding a three hours train to Aguas Calientes. You will then take a 25 minutes bus ride to the citadel where you will be given a two hours tour. After the tour, you will be taking a bus back to Aguas Calientes and a three hours train back to Ollantaytambo and the by road to Cusco.
Machu Picchu can be done on a full-day tour to Machu Picchu from Cusco. For a more leisure trip, you can choose an overnight tour where you will be spending a night in Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes Town). Alternatively, you can choose some of the renowned treks like Salkantay Trek, Inca Trail or Lares Trek that varies from 3 days to 5 days.
Yes, Machu Picchu is open every day from 0600 AM to 0530 PM including weekends and public holidays. Machu Picchu is closed at night.
If you are doing a regular tour you will just be spending 2-3 hours inside the citadel. However, if you are hiking Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, you can add 4-5 hours to it. However, if you have an extra day, it is recommended to visit the Machu Picchu Museum in Aguas Calientes town.
It normally takes 1.5 hours to 2 hours to reach Machu Picchu citadel from Aguas Calientes town by hiking. However, if you are planning on doing Inca Trail, Lares Trek, or Salkantay Trek it takes between three and five days depending on the route you choose.
The train ride from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes just takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes. So it’s entirely possible to go to Machu Picchu citadel in just one day.
