We will continue our journey until we reach the starting point of the hike at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet). We will start hiking along a meandering path in the middle of the Andean mountains, following a pretty stream. As we ascend, we will be rewarded with the impressive view of Ausangate Mountain, standing at 6,372 meters (20,905 feet).
In this remote region, we will see local people working the land. You will be amazed by their traditional clothing and artistic textile talents, inherited from their ancestors. Our guide will explain the meaning of some garments and, if interested, we can learn a few words in Quechua, the native language of many inhabitants of the area.
After about an hour and a half of walking, we will reach the amazing Rainbow Mountain of Cusco, standing at 5,100 meters (16,732 feet). You will admire the astounding beauty of this impressive natural formation and feel the thrill of witnessing a unique site. We will explore the surroundings and take in the stunning landscape while our guide explains theories about the origin of this mountain. We will spend around 30 minutes to an hour at the top, depending on our pace and the weather conditions.
After enjoying this gem amidst the Peruvian Andes, we will begin our trek towards the fascinating Red Valley, at 5,050 meters (16,568 feet). This place feels like stepping onto another planet and is visited by very few tourists. The tranquility and beauty of the Red Valley will surprise us. It takes only 30 minutes of walking to reach the viewpoint, offering the best views of the valley all around.
We will then begin a 2-hour descent back to the trek’s starting point, passing through ancient Andean communities and herds of llamas. With luck, we might spot some vicuñas, a beautiful and protected animal. We will drive back to Cusco, arriving around 5:00 PM, concluding our full-day Rainbow Mountain Peru tour.
