Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Tour is one of the popular full day tours from Cusco. Infact, it is the second most popular attraction in Cusco after Machu Picchu.
Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Peru was discovered early in 2016. The seven colored mountain was covered in snow, when the snow started melting the colours started appearing. Rapidly it got all the deserving attention.
Also known as Montana de siete colores locally, it attracts over 800 visitors a day. Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain is a part of the Ausangate Mountain Range. The snow capped Ausangate peak dominates the southern skyline of Cusco.
It is sacred to the Anden communities. To locals, this is “Apus” Mighty Lord. They often offer offerings to express their gratitude. Andean culture primarily evolves in worshipping natural entities.
There are two Rainbow Mountains trips from Cusco, Vinicunca and Palccoyo. Vinicunca is popular among trekkers. It starts at 4326 metres above sea level and the summit is at 5,100 metres above sea level.
The trek offers a captivating view of Andean farms. You will also have the opportunity to spot Alpacas, Llamas and Vicunas. If this seems challenging to you, then you can simply skip the trekking part and jump on a horse back right from the starting point.
People are often prone to altitude sickness as this is a high altitude trek. We highly recommend you to spend at least 2-3 days in Cusco before the trek. To make your experience more enjoyable, the trek has both breakfast and lunch included.

Nice and enjoyable trek but a bit challenging. The views are stunning up the way. Karen is an excellent coordinator. She made this so smooth that we don`t have words to praise her. The trip went just as it was mentioned in the itinerary. The pickup was on time from the hotel we stayed. The guide was equipped with first aid and oxygen cans. The guide spoke fluent English and was very friendly and joyful. Our vegan meal request was fulfilled too. Highly recommended. Kudos to Karen!
