Day 1Cusco - Sacred Valley - Aguas Calientes

We will begin our Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour from Cusco early in the morning. We will pick you up from your hotel and start our journey towards Chinchero. How to get from Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu?

The easiest way to get from Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu is by taking a tourist train from Ollantaytambo train station to Aguas Calientes town. Aguas Calientes is the gateway to Machu Picchu. From there you can take a 25 minutes bus ride (USD 12 per person each way) to the entrance of Machu Picchu citadel. 

Is the Sacred Valley in Machu Picchu?

No, Sacred Valley is not in Machu Picchu. Ollantaytambo is the last town of Sacred Valley from where the trains depart to Aguas Calientes town which is a gateway to Machu Picchcu. 

Can you see Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu same day?

Ideally, the answer is no, you cannot see Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu same day. A complete Sacred Valley Tour takes you to five sites located in five different villages in the valley. However if you only intend to see the ruins of Ollantaytambo, you can visit the ruins early in the morning and take a train to Aguas Calientes to visit Machu Picchu the same day. 

How many people visit Machu Picchu a day?

Around 2000 people used to visit Machu Picchu each day. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic this number has diminished.

Can you go to Machu Picchu in one day?

Yes, it’s possible to visit Machu Picchu in one day. You can take a train in Ollantaytambo early in the morning, arrive to Aguas Calientes and then go to Machu Picchu before midday. Finally, you can return to Cusco in the afternoon.
