Cheapest 2 day Inca Trail Tours Details
Inca Trail Peru

Cheapest 2 day Inca Trail Tours to Machu Picchu is the best alternative to the Classic Inca Trail Peru

The Classic Inca Trail is one o the most opted ways to reach Machu Picchu. In order to maintain the trail, authorities now restrict access to only 500 people a day. This includes cooks, guides and porters. The permit tend to sell out months in advance.

Popularly known as the Short Inca Trail Peru, this is perfect for those wanting to experience the highlights of the 500 years old trail. It takes you to the prominent Inca sites on the trail, namely Wiñay Wayna and Inti Punku (Sun Gate).

This is also popular among families wanting to experience something a little different than the regular Machu Picchu tour. The trail involves no high altitude mountain passes, extensive hikes, or a need to camp at remote places. Instead, you will spend the night in an ensuite hotel room in Aguas Calientes.

This Inca trail Peru covers a total distance of 11 Kilometres (6.8 miles). The whole trail is on Qhapaq Ñan which in Quechua means the Royal Road. During the Inca civilization this was the only route to reach the Inca citadel from Cusco.

Although the trail involves no high mountain passes, we highly recommend you to spend at least three days in Cusco before the trail to avoid altitude sickness.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Km.104 - Aguas Calientes

Early in the morning, we will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport we will be driving you along the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo train station. Here you will be boarding the train to the trailhead which is at Km 104.

The trail head is named after its distance from Cusco enroute to Machu Picchu. On reaching Km 104, the local authorities will be verifying the details of your Short Inca Trail permit against your passport. So please ensure to carry your passport.

We will then start the 2 days Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. We will begin with a gradual uphill hike, against the course of Urubamba river to Wiñay Wayna. In Quechua, Wiñay Wayna means “forever young”. It is a notable archaeological site in the trail. It is at 2650 metres above sea level.

Here we will be stopping for lunch. After lunch, our guide will give you a tour of the complex. Then we will be continuing the trail to Inti Punku (Sun Gate).

This is a popular Inca site on the Inca Trail. From here you will get the first view of Machu Picchu citadel.

You will be able to click some fantastic photos from here. This will be the best time of the day as there are normally less tourists in Machu Picchu in the afternoon.

We will then take a bus to Aguas Calientes. Here, we will be accommodating you in an ensuite hotel room.

Day 2Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

You will need to wake up early in the morning as you will be taking an early morning bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu citadel. Once at the entrance of the citadel, our guide will assist you in clearing the security control.

As you would walk-into the citadel, you will be witnessing the sun rising over the mortal walls of this emblematic Inca city. We will then give you a two hours guided tour of the citadel. On this tour, you will be visiting some of the prominent places like the main square, royal quarters, ceremonial centre and more.

After the tour you will have some free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. If you have booked to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, our guide will direct you to the respective entrance.

Then you will be taking the bus back to Aguas Calientes town. Here you will be boarding the train to Ollantaytambo. Our representative will be picking you up from the train station and will be transferring you back to your hotel in Cusco.
