Waqrapukara Peru is one of the newest attractions near the city of Cusco. It is a horn shaped fortress. The name derives from its form in Quechua. It is a lesser known Inca site located in the Acomayo province to the South of Cusco.
The archaeological site nestles at 4150 meters above sea level. It is snuggled between two horn shaped mountain peaks. It is home to some eight farming terraces, remains of Inca homes and typical Incan stairways made of stone.
In a recent archaeological excavation the archaeologists discovered a triple jammed door. This was a testament to the religious importance of the site. The Incas used certain types of designs to sites with particular importance.
In a recent interview a noted archaeologist Miguel Cornejo told La Republica (a newspaper in Peru) “Waqrapukara is an Inca sanctuary of the first order that denotes immense political and religious power, as-yet undeciphered.”
The one day Waqrapukara Hike is a unique experience, it takes you with a sight of the Apurimac river. On the way you will also be seeing some antique cave paintings.
Join us in uncovering the mystery of Waqrapukara on a guided tour with our local expert. We have dedicated guides who have an extensive knowledge about history and culture.
